Key Safety Findings

PolyBuzz (formerly Poly.AI) is an AI character chat app with 10 million Google Play installs, developed by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC and registered in Anguilla. Our safety evaluation drew from the app’s privacy policy, terms of use, Google Play and App Store listings, Exodus Privacy tracker analysis (32 trackers, 59 permissions in version 2.1.99), a CCL Solutions Group forensic investigation confirming unencrypted plaintext data transmission, Have I Been Pwned breach history (clean), and independent child safety investigations by BrightCanary, Qustodio, FlashGet, and AirDroid. We also analyzed 600 user reviews across both app stores for safety-relevant patterns.

How We Scored This

We scored PolyBuzz using 8 evidence sources collected in April 2026:

  • Legal documents: Privacy policy and terms of service from polybuzz.ai (both partially truncated by JavaScript rendering)
  • App store listings: iOS App Store (387,000+ ratings) and Google Play Store (956,000+ reviews, 10M+ downloads), including content ratings, permissions, and privacy labels
  • Technical analysis: Exodus Privacy tracker scan (32 trackers detected, 22 advertising-related, including Yandex Ad), Apple privacy nutrition labels
  • Third-party safety investigations: BrightCanary (Nov 2025), FlashGet (Dec 2025), Qustodio (Mar 2026), AirDroid (Feb 2026), Kroha (Mar 2026), and CCL Solutions Group digital forensics (May 2025)
  • Breach history: Have I Been Pwned database check (no known breaches)

Four critical overrides triggered simultaneously, each enough on its own to cap or fail the grade: no crisis response system (1/5), uncontrolled sexual content accessible with the teen filter active (1/5), trivially bypassed age verification (1/5), and zero effective minor safeguards (1/5). PolyBuzz scored 1 out of 5 on 15 of 23 sub-dimensions, more than any other app in the CompanionWise Safety Index. CCL Solutions Group confirmed conversations transmit as plaintext JSON with no encryption. Exodus Privacy found 32 trackers in the Android app, including precise location collection with no location-based features. The only dimension above 2.0 was user control (2.5), driven by neutral baseline scores where evidence was absent rather than positive findings.
